Free Computer Security Training

Corsera.org Security Training

Coursera is now offering a course on Cyber Security. It is taught by University professors. This training is unique to online training in that you have a choice of getting a certificate of completion and you can also get college credit for taking the course. The course is free but there are fees for the additional proof of completion. I highly recommend this course.

Open University

The Open University Website has lots of free It training available. The information is good but it is all text and no videos. The information is surrounded by ads and other information. There are no certificates available for completion of the training. The link is for a course in Network Security.

Information Security Tutorial

OmniSecure.com has a good tutorial on information security. It is text base and divided into lessons according to topic. Each lesson averages about a half page of text. It is similar to reading a short book on the subject.

IASE Information Assurance Support Environment

This is a US Government website that contains cyber security training mainly for government employees.  Some of the classes are open to the general public. You can’t download the training like the government employees can but you are welcome to take some of the classes online. The training is very good and some of it is interactive. I highly recommend it.  If you are applying for security jobs it would be a good idea to list the classes you have completed.

NIH: National Institute of Health

The National Institute of Health is providing online training in Information Security free of charge. If you complete the training in one session you are able to print out a certificate of completion. The classes have audio but if you are in a hurry you can read the material. The training is entertaining and very well put together. There are classes for administrators and managers alike.
